Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia to attend Alexy II’s Funeral

Tbilisi, December 6, Interfax - Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia plans to travel to Moscow on Sunday, December 7, to attend the funeral of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, which is scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, the Georgian Patriarchate reported on Saturday.
On Friday Ilia II served last rites for Alexy II and sent a letter of condolences to the Moscow Patriarchate.
Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, the head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, said earlier on Saturday that Alexy II would be buried on the grounds of the Epiphany Cathedral in Moscow. Alexy II himself wished to be buried at the Epiphany Cathedral, where he had conducted services for years and where the relics of St. Alexy, the deceased Patriarch's patron saint, are stored, he said.
