Belarus President condoles over demise of Patriarch Alexy II

On behalf of the Belarusian nation and himself President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has expressed condolence to the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church and all Orthodox believers over the death of Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II, the press service of the President of Belarus told BelTA.
“This grievous loss of the Orthodox world has filled our hearts with acute sorrow”.
Alexy II’s entire life was dedicated to the service to the God and people. Patriarch Alexy II is an outstanding historical figure, a man of genuine belief and prayer, a particularly esteemed head of the church for millions of Orthodox believers. He has won universal respect of the clergy and lay people for his selfless labour, power of spirit, responsiveness and beneficence.
His Holiness treated Belarus with a fatherly attention. He was a spiritual guide and a genuine friend for us. The huge loss the Russian Orthodox Church has incurred is shared by the entire Belarusian nation.
I recollect many years of our friendly relations and the last meeting in Minsk a month ago with warmth and hearty appreciation. Alexy II’s pastoral words, his aid and prayers have always supported me.
In people’s memory Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II will remain a wise pastor, a man of immense kindness and limitless dedication to the church. May his soul rest in the kingdom of heaven,” reads the condolence.
The Belarusian head of state has also extended condolence to Russian Federation President Dmitry Medvedev and all Russia citizens.
“Belarus enjoyed peculiar pastoral attention of Alexy II, whose blessing saw the start of many charitable deeds in our land. We lost a genuine friend, who has made an invaluable contribution to the enhancement of the Belarusian-Russian unity.
In these sorrowful and mournful days the bitter taste of the grievous loss unites our hearts. The Belarusians will always keep cherished memories of Alexy II,” reads the condolence.
