Before laying flowers to the monument those present honoured the memory of the deceased with a minute of silence. During the conversation with journalists His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr emphasized that the Church prays for the dead every day, and also prayed for the health of those who have survived till now.
"Soldiers of the Soviet Army gave their lives for our land, our people and their freedom. Therefore praying for the soldiers takes place at every divine service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - those who defend our Motherland today and those who lost their lives at the front in the distant 40-ties - those who had not returned and who passed away to the better life for our peace and wellbeing," noted the Archpastor.
As a sign of commemoration of the deceased the Metropolitan's choir of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary sang the chants from the office for the dead: "With the Saints give rest" and "Memory eternal".
