Five New Priests Ordained in Holy Etchmiadzin

On Sunday, May 4, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin celebrated the "Second" Palm Sunday. During the celebration of Divine Liturgy, five deacons of the Armenian Church and graduates from the Gevorkian Theological Seminary were ordained into the Holy Order of the Priesthood by His Grace Bishop Ararat Kaltakjian, Grand Sacristan of the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin. His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, presided during the Liturgy and ordinations.
As His Grace anointed the candidates’ foreheads, and palms of both hands with Holy Chrism (Muron), he called each deacon by his new name three times:
Deacon Armenak Baghalian was renamed Father AristakesDeacon Arman Marukian became Father HovhannesDeacon Vardan Baghumian was renamed Father VrtanesDeacon Avetik Grigorian became Father HousikDeacon Zakar Sahakian was renamed Father Nerses
During the Divine Liturgy, His Holiness and the members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin ascended the bema to the Holy Altar and congratulated the new priests.
In his sermon His Grace expressed his joy that five more priests will be serving the Armenian Church and addressed his message to the newly ordained priests stating in part: "The ordination and anointment that you received today is not a mere formality. Today you received God’s gifts. With the anointed Holy Chrism God sent to every anointed priest the Holy Spirit and all the gifts that the Holy Spirit conveys. Today you made a covenant with God to be a "servant without shame" and be servants of the Holy Church of Christ. Today you took the steps that will lead your life to the faithful" emphasized Bishop Ararat asking the new priests to start their mission with love and dedication.
After a 40-day period of seclusion at the Mother See, the new priests will be assigned by His Holiness to serve in the various dioceses of the Armenian Church and departments of the Mother See.
