Regular Session of Holy Synod of Ukrainian Orthodox Church took place

On Thursday, May 8, in the Primate's residence in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra the regular session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr.Participating in the session were: Metropolitan Agathangel of Odesa and Izmayil, Ioannikiy of Alchevsk and Luhansk, Anthony of Khmelnytsk and Starokostyantynivsk, Archbishop Mark of Khust and Vynohradiv, Pytyrym of Mykolayiv and Voznesensk, Mytrofan of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav - Executive Administrator of the UOC and Bishop Mytrofan of Horlivka and Slovyansk.
Opening the session, the Archpastor greeted Archbishop Mark of Khust and Vynohradiv on his name day and presented him with an icon of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark.
In the course of session the report of Chairman of the Synodal Commission of the UOC on Canonization of Saints Archbishop of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol Ephraim on glorification among the ranks of the locally venerated saints of the Kyiv Diocese of the Abbess of Arzamas Alekseev Community, Schema Nun Olimpiada (Strygaliova) (+6/19 August,1828), of the Khust Diocese - archimandrite Job (Kundrya) (+28 July 1985), brethren of the Mghar Monastery, who suffered in the times of persecution of the Holy Church, as well as the men of faith who fought the good fight in the Holy Nativity of the Theotokos Hermitage of Hlynka "in the holy mountains on Donets".
In addition, the Holy Synod approved the title of the ruling bishops of the Kremenchuk Diocese - Bishop of Lubny and Kremenchuk.
The Synod passed the resolution on dismissal form the office of Chairman of the Educational Committee to the Holy Synod of the UOC Metropolitan of Odesa and Izmayil Agathangel. Rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary Bishop of Boryspil Anthony was appointed to this office. Bishop of Kremenchuk and Lubny Evlogiy replaced him in this post.
At the session the issue of reorganization of the Synodal Department for Religious Education, Catechization and Missionary Work of the UOC. Archbishop of Poltava and Myrhorod Philip was dismissed from the post of Chairman, and the agency was divided into two separate departments: Synodal Department of Missionary Work and Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechization of the UOC. The former was headed by His Eminence Philip, the latter - by Archbishop of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol Ephraim. Archbishop of Kherson and Tavriysk Ioann was appointed Chairman of the Synodal Commission of Canonization of the UOC.
The Holy Synod acceded to the request of His Grace Ioann (Shestopal), Bishop of Konotop and Glukhiv to be dismissed out of staff. His place of stay was appointed the Holy Dormition Lavra of Svyatogirsk, the Diocese of Donetsk. The Holy Synod installed as Bishop of Konotop and Glukhiv His Eminence Luka (Kovalenko), Archbishop of Vasylkiv, Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis, Superior of the Stauropegial Hermitage of Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Glinka, having removed him from the office of Vicar of the Kyiv Metropolis and keeping for him the office of Superior of the Stauropegial Hermitage of Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Glinka.
The Synod resolved to divide the Diocese of Cherkasy and singled the Diocese of Uman out of it. The city of Cherkasy and the following districts remained in the composition of the Diocese of Cherkasy: of Gorodyshche, Drabovka, Zolotonosha, Kamyanka, Kaniv, Katerynopil, Korsun-Shevchenkiv, Smila, Cherkasy, Chygyryn, Chornobay, Shpola.
The following districts of the Cherkasy region were assigned to the Uman Diocese: of Zhashkiv, Zvenigorod, Lysianka, Mankiv, Monastyryshche, Talniv, Uman, Khrystynivskyi.
Bishops of the Diocese of Cherkasy retained the title "of Cherkasy and Kaniv", and o fthe Uman Diocese - "of Uman and Zvenigorod". The tenure of the Uman Diocese was left to Archbishop Sophrony (Dmytruk), and a clergyman of the Odesa Diocese, archimandrite Anthony (Borovyk) was installed Bishop of Uman and Zvenigorod.
At the session of the Holy Synod the report of the Commission was given a hearing, as well as the explanations of the ruling bishop of the Sumy Diocese His Grace Ilariy, Bishop of Sumy And Okhtyrka, and of the former rector of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral of the district centre archpriest Georgiy Bavykin.
The following resolution was adopted: "In the name of the Saviour Resurrected to call both parties to reconciliation on conditions of mutual satisfaction."
In case of persistence of the conflict to pass corresponding decisions of the Holy Synod proceeding from the canon law of the Orthodox Church.
The Holy Synod also agreed to summon to the regular session the following hierarchs: Metropolitan of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad Iriney, Archbishop Feodor of Kamyanets-Podilskyi and Gorodok and Bishop Panteleimon of Olexandriya and Svitlovodsk.
