Moscow, May 6, Interfax - The Union of Orthodox Citizens anchors its hopes for further development of Russia on the basis of Orthodox values with the presidency of Dmitry Medvedev. "Now, when there is no immediate threat of desovereignization of Russia, and its sovereignty and independence is well protected, we need to do the most important work of national modernization of this country on the basis of its Orthodox traditions," writes the head of the Union's Moscow department Kirill Frolov in his paper. According to Frolov, there is no other option, "because modernization without any tradition will make our country lost in the flood of globalization."Preserving a tradition without national modernization will turn this country into an "Indian reservation" which shall be taken over by those who win the harsh competition for brains, intellectual, technology and natural resources, land and territories," writes Frolov.Therefore, continues Frolov, it is only Orthodox tradition focused on the social partnership of the Church, the state and the society which is "the basis for a successful breakthrough of Russia which needs to re-establish its status of the world power and the leading position in the post-Soviet environment to strengthen its sovereignty.
