In the spirit of remembering the needy people particularly at Christmas, the Pontiff visited the “Birds’ Nest”, which shelters 50 deprived kids.
The Pontiff also paid a visit to the national sanatorium in Azounieh, home to over 150 patients and old people. He also visited the National Home of the Elderly in Bourdj Hammoud and the home of the blind people, where over 100 cases receive care and treatment. His Holiness also attended the Christmas event organized by the Armenian Church University Students’ Association (ACUSA).
His Holiness distributed gifts during his visits, wishing everyone a long life filled with joy and health in the years to come. The Pontiff reminded everyone that “the church should open up to our nation through service; it should become an important presence in the life of our people and in the footsteps of its founder Jesus Christ, it should be with the poor, the elderly, the sick and the deprived. Today more than ever our people need the caring of the church, they need the life-giving words of the Gospel so they can live their lives on the basis of enlightening spiritual values.”
