Moscow, December 15, Interfax – The main task of the Russian Church is to preserve spiritual immunity of the country before outside challenges, Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal See Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad believes.

“Guarding spiritual boundaries of our Motherland and preserving unity is the task of the Russian Church,” the Metropolitan said at a meeting with professors and students of the Moscow Theological Schools in the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Laura.

According to him, protecting “the Church, her people and the Holy Russia from spiritual aggression” was one of the main achievements of late Patriarch Alexy II, the Moscow Patriarchate official website has reported.

“If we speak about future of our Church, I believe our main task is to stick to this way and not to let anyone tear our nation to pieces, none of false teachers, be they false philosophers preaching next “isms” and enticing our people as Marxists once did, or be they cultists, schismatics or false missionaries that joined those who wanted to divide people of Holy Russia in difficult times,” the Locum Tenens stressed.

He urged to remember, “Russia like other countries steps into a very dangerous epoch of globalization.”

“The most powerful will win as existing borders are being eliminated, and they will be even fewer in the future...This process may end in failure, if we are weak, if we lose real collision of forces and ideas. We don’t have a right to lose historic fight for Russia, as when we fight to preserve Holy Russia, we fight to preserve human souls,” Metropolitan Kirill said.
