On December 6 the Session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church will take place on December 6 to elect Patriarchal Locum Tenens and to define the time and place of the funeral of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II. In compliance with the Statute of the Russian Orthodox Church he Holy Synod under the chairmanship of the eldest by consecration permanent member of the Holy Synod shall immediately elect the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal throne from among its permanent members.
