Strasbourg, December 7, Interfax - The Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis has expressed his deep sadness following the death of Patriarch Alexy II, the head of Russian Orthodox Church.
"I wish to pay tribute to Patriarch Alexy II for his important contribution to the inter-confessional dialogue. He will also be remembered for the key role he played during the delicate period of transition in his country after the collapse of the Soviet Union", he said.
Davis offered his deep sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Russia and to the followers of the Russian Orthodox Church across the world.
