Minsk, October 24, Interfax - Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia stressed the necessity of preserving unity between Byelorussian and Russian people.

"I hope for the unity between Russian and Byelorussian people. We need to keep the unity of the holy Orthodoxy," the primate of the Russian Church told journalists in Minsk. "Unity will allow us to find common features and solve problems and difficulties the world has faced in time of the economic crisis," the Patriarch stressed. He confessed that he "is glad to visit Byelorussia," and informed he would have a meeting with the country's head Alexander Lukashenko. "We have often met with the Byelorussian President and we always managed to find mutual understanding," Alexy II said.
