Moscow, March 5, Interfax – The Moscow Patriarchate says today the lack of priests isn’t so crucial anymore.
“Today we are not in the early or middle 1990s, when the lack of clerics was disastrous and we had to consecrate candidates even though they weren’t prepared enough” chairman of the Russian Church’s Education Committee and rector of the Moscow theological schools Archbishop Yevgeny of Vereya told Interfax-Religion website.
According to him, as the problem is not so topical, the Jubilee Bishop’s Council 2000 of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to “consecrate people only with seminary or correspondent education.” Bishop’s Council 2004 backed up this resolution.
“This is the way we deal the problem today,” the archbishop said.
