Metropolitan Jonah offers support for FOCUS North America

SYOSSET, NY [OCA Communications] -- His Beatitude, Metropolitan Jonah has issued a letter to the clergy of the Orthodox Church in America endorsing the work of the recently established Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve [FOCUS North America].
FOCUS North America is a network of Orthodox Christian social action ministries that express Christ's love in North America for those who are hungry, thirsty, strangers, naked, sick or in prison [Matt. 25:35-5].
"While many of us live in relative comfort, the reality is that many in our country and even in some of our parishes are facing desperation," Metropolitan Jonah writes in his letter. "I know that you are already supporting your parish and other worthy causes, but I hope that, out of the abundance that the Lord has given you and according to your means, you will also support this important initiative."
To support the work of the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve, please send donations to FOCUS North America, 3101 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64109. Checks should be made payable to "FOCUS North America." Donations may also be made on the FOCUS North America web site at www.FOCUSNorthAmerica.org
Metropolitan Jonah is asking clergy to read his letter of endorsement for FOCUS North America and to post it in churches on St. Thomas Sunday, April 26, 2009, or on one of the subsequent Sundays during the Paschal season.
