Moscow Patriarchate stands for ban on promoting Satanism

Moscow, December 2, Interfax – The Russian Orthodox Church stands for statutory bar on promoting Satanism in Russia.

“Similar to fascism that once led to murders and therefore was prohibited, today Satanism leads to murders, desecration of churches and graves, animal abuse. I believe, law should prohibit any promotion of Satanism,” deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin said on air Channel 5.

He points out that today Satanist symbols, swastikas, inverted stars are often scratched on church walls and “evidently, it is the doing of Satanist groups.”He also believes it important to adopt a law on preserving religious shrines. “Desecration of religious shrines is equally serious violation of law as desecration of graves or state flag, as in this case people encroach on things that are worth more than life for believers,” Fr. Vsevolod said.
