Bishop Conference Convened in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

On September 30, under the presidency of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, a Bishop Conference was held in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. Following an opening prayer, His Holiness welcomed the Bishops residing in the Mother See and the Diocesan Primates who traveled to the Mother See on the occasion of the Blessing of the Holy Muron, wishing that God grant them support in the fulfillment of their missions. Hranoush Hakobyan, head of the State Committee for Diaspora Relations of the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, introduced the concept of the Ministry of the Diaspora to the bishops. In her report Mrs. Hakobian referred to the structure and future projects of the Ministry, which aim to strengthen ties between Armenia and the Diaspora, to preserve the Armenian identity, to promote repatriation as well as consolidate the Armenian potential. After the presentation of the report Mrs. Hakobian held a question and answer session. At the conclusion of the session His Holiness expressed his appreciation to Mrs. Hakobian for her detailed report wishing success to the activities of the Ministry.
The meeting continued with discussion of agenda items. One of the issues discussed was the project on the Constitution of the Armenian Church. His Eminence Archbishop Yeznik Petrosian presented a review of the issue, reporting on the proposals and suggestions submitted by the Dioceses. Also discussed were items relating to the implementation of spiritual preaching and educational missions and the internal life of the church.
The next Bishop Conference is scheduled to convene in November 2009.
