Moscow, February 1, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church doesn't share the opinion that economy is 'the main determinative force' and a society's prosperity is measured by its population income.
'No economical system will be viable without moral component. Any human activity is gradually seized by sin and destroyed without moral rules and supreme sense,' deputy head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin stated at the Orthodox Values and Business section in frames of the 16th Christmas Readings.He has noted that secular people often say that Church 'has to pray and speculate over abstract notions' nothing to do with state and society.He further said that when the World Russian Council's document on economical sphere was adopted, some mass media accused the Church.
'The Church should address all people's concerns and all people are involved in economic discussion,' Fr. Vsevolod stressed. 'Business, trade unions, state should discuss economic future of this country together'.
The Russian Civilization Institute director Oleg Platonov recited main characteristic features of Russian economic model: spiritual and moral principle on its basis, orientation to circularity and self-sufficiency, ability to self-restriction, working character of business activities, special attitude to capitalistic property ('usurious income is parasitic'), special attitude to land, which should not belong to anyone, original organizational peculiarities (an artel, a community), original peculiarities of working and economic motivation and others.
